The Coastal Settlement Singapore: A Hidden Café That Feels Like a Movie Set (And What to Actually Order from the Menu)

Let’s be real for a second: getting me to travel all the way to Changi for dinner is a massive commitment. I am a city girl through and through, so when my friends suggested we visit The Coastal Settlement Singapore, I was skeptical. But after seeing the aesthetic on TikTok, my curiosity won in the vibrant Singapore dessert scene here.

I visited on a Friday around 6:30 pm, hoping to catch the sunset. Driving down the long, quiet stretch of road through the serene Changi area to get there, the feel was like leaving the country entirely. It is quite a trek, but the second I stepped out of the Grab, my mind immediately settled into a calm, reflective state, taking in the tranquil surroundings. The journey is exactly the point—it is a total escape from the city. But the real question was: does the food actually match the main character vibes, or is it just another pretty trap?

Stepping Into a Vintage Decor Dream at Coastal Settlement

Walking into the Coastal Settlement feels like stepping onto a movie set. Surrounded by lush greenery, the restaurant offers a secluded, romantic, and nostalgic atmosphere that transports guests to the past.

Inside, the spacious area is filled with vintage decor reflecting its history as Block 20, Changi Camp—a former telephone exchange and fault control point operated by the 19 Signal Regiment for the Royal Air Force during the British colonial era. The walls are lined with old-school Vespas, antique electronics, and retro paintings. We settled into a cozy booth with strong AC, perfect for conversation as soft oldies played in the background. It’s like dining inside a quirky museum filled with history and charm.

The Good Food (And The Not-So-Good Desserts)

The menu here offers a remarkable variety of dishes that blend Western and Asian influences, showcasing a commitment to quality ingredients and creative flavors. The Coastal Settlement offers vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options, catering to various dietary needs and allergens, ensuring all guests can enjoy their meal comfortably.

Star Dish: Char-Grilled Iberico Pork

We started with the Char-Grilled Iberico Pork ($34), and oh my gosh, it was the star of the night. The meat was super tender and juicy, easily falling apart on my fork. It came drenched in a sweet, sticky caramelized onion gravy with a slight balsamic tang. Every bite was an absolute flavor bomb, thanks to the quality ingredients that really enhanced the experience.

Classic Favorite: Grouper Fish & Chips

Next, we shared the Grouper Fish & Chips ($26). The batter was wonderfully thin and crisp, letting the delicate, flaky texture of the fresh grouper shine through without feeling greasy. It was piping hot and smelled exactly like a seaside holiday, though I would have preferred the batter to be just a bit more crispy. The chips served alongside were perfectly seasoned, making this dish a classic favorite.

Popular Starters and Desserts

Other highlights from the menu include the Truffle Fries ($15), drizzled with fragrant white truffle oil, and the TCS Waffle Stacks, a charming dessert option.

Hearty Breakfast Options

The Settlement Big Breakfast ($24) is another popular choice, served with scrambled eggs, creamed mushrooms, maple-glazed bacon, chicken cheese sausage, crispy potato, and a fresh mesclun salad that adds a refreshing touch to the hearty meal. The TCS Baked Eggs ($24) come with two poached eggs, minced beef chuck, chopped beef and pork sausages, tangy homemade tomato sauce, and smoked cheddar cheese—perfect for sharing.

Diverse Culinary Selection

For those craving something a bit different, the menu also offers wagyu beef dishes and spaghetti options that showcase the Coastal Settlement’s diverse culinary selection. Prawns feature in some of the Asian-inspired dishes, adding a seafood flair to the offerings.

Brunch Availability

The brunch menu is available on weekends and public holidays, including Sundays, from 11am to 4pm, making it the perfect time to enjoy a leisurely dining experience with family or friends.

But because I am me, I had to test the desserts. We ordered the Orh Nee (Yam) Cake ($12). Visually, it was stunning. The yam filling itself was actually really pleasant—earthy and not overly sweet. But sadly, the sponge cake layered between it was incredibly dry. It basically crumbled into dust on my spoon. Honestly? Come for the savory comfort food, which is served in generous portions, and enjoy the variety of dishes and flavors on offer, but maybe skip the cake.

Service Experience: A Test of Patience

If there is one downside to this charming spot, it is the service. While the staff were perfectly polite, the wait was longer than expected.

It took us a solid 15 minutes just to get our menus, and getting someone’s attention to refill our water felt like a mini workout. I get that the space is huge and they were gearing up for the Friday dinner rush, but the service is intentionally slow-paced. Do not come here if you are starving and in a hurry.

Practical Info & Opening Hours

If you’re thinking about making the trip down to the east like I did, here’s the lowdown:

  • Price: Heads up, prices have crept up over time, which makes sense with rising costs everywhere. You’re looking at spending about $30–$45 per person for a decent meal, and if you’re like me and can’t resist ordering a few extra mains or drinks, it can easily hit $60+ if you start ordering larger mains or drinks. So, it’s a bit on the pricier side for what you get, but honestly, the whole vibe kind of makes up for it.
  • Location: The Coastal Settlement is tucked away at 200 Netheravon Road, Singapore 508529, right in the quiet Changi area. There’s no MRT nearby, so plan to drive or grab a ride. There’s a car park on site, which is a relief because parking in Singapore can be a headache.
  • Opening Hours: They’re open daily, but I’d recommend checking their socials first, especially around public holidays when hours might shift.
  • Chloe’s Cheat Code: Book a table for 5:30 pm on a weekday. Trust me, you’ll beat the crazy weekend crowds, catch the golden-hour light for those perfect photos, and the kitchen won’t be as slammed, so service tends to be smoother.

Final Verdict

So, is The Coastal Settlement Singapore worth the journey?

Perfect for: First dates (the dim lighting and vintage decor are top-tier), family dinners, and pet owners who want to chill in the beautiful outdoor seating area surrounded by greenery and park-like space.

Avoid if: You’re in a rush, on a tight budget, or just want a flawless, quick dining experience.

For me, the vibe alone was worth the Grab fare. It is the perfect place to disconnect, share some genuinely hearty food with friends and family, and pretend you live in a different era. Just maybe grab your dessert somewhere else on the way home!
